Why stay at the Hoxton

Five canal houses on the Herengracht make up the hotel, and one of them was reportedly home to an Amsterdam mayor in the 17th century. Behind the old facades, The Hoxton opened in July 2015 with rooms that mix parquet floors and modern bathrooms, and many of them look out over the canal.

The ground floor belongs to Lotti’s, a neighbourhood restaurant and lobby bar that is popular with locals as well as guests, serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.

The location works well for a first visit. The Nine Streets are four minutes away, the Dam and the Royal Palace seven, and the Anne Frank House eight. If you book direct, The Hoxton offers free early check-in and late check-out when rooms allow, which it calls Flexy Time.

The rooms: what you should know before booking

Read the room description carefully before you book; these are the points that matter most here.

  • Size. The room names are honest. Shoebox rooms are about 17 m², Cosy rooms about 20 m² and Roomy rooms about 28 m², according to Oyster, with Biggy at the top. Pick Cosy or Roomy if you want space to unpack.
  • Views. Many rooms have canal views, but not all. Check the room description if a view of the Herengracht matters.
  • Families. Children of any age are welcome. Cots and extra beds depend on the room type and availability, so ask before you book.
  • Which Hoxton?. The Hoxton has two Amsterdam hotels. This one is on the Herengracht in the centre; The Hoxton, Lloyd is in the Eastern Docklands. Check the address on your booking.
