DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station is a four-star hotel of about 550 rooms on the Oosterdok, a five-minute walk east of the station. All rooms were renovated by 2024, and the 11th-floor rooftop bar LuminAir has views across the IJ and the old city. Why stay at the DoubleTree
The hotel opened in 2011 as the Mint Hotel and became the first DoubleTree by Hilton in the Netherlands within months. It is a big, modern building with floor-to-ceiling windows, set on the waterfront between Centraal Station and NEMO.
Everything has been redone in the last few years. The rooms were renovated by 2024 in colours inspired by the Amsterdam School, the ground floor was rebuilt in 2025 around the new restaurant WE ARE EDN, and the rooftop bar reopened in 2023 as LuminAir, with cloud-like light installations.
It is not a canal-house hotel, and it does not try to be. What it offers is space, modern rooms and a location that makes arriving and leaving by train easy.
The rooms: what you should know before booking
Read the room description carefully before you book; these are the points that matter most here.
- Views. Through the large windows you look over the IJ, the Oosterdok, the railway or the city. Ask for a water view if it matters to you.
- Noise. The hotel sits beside the railway tracks. Rooms are soundproofed, but some guests notice the trains; light sleepers can ask for a room on the water side.
- Families. Family and connecting rooms are available. Cots for children up to two are free on request, and extra beds are charged.
- Accessibility. The entrance is step-free, and there are accessible rooms with roll-in showers and grab bars.
