Le site \u00e9tait \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine occup\u00e9 par deux couvents m\u00e9di\u00e9vaux. Apr\u00e8s 1578, il devint le Prinsenhof, une r\u00e9sidence destin\u00e9e aux h\u00f4tes de marque, puis il abrita de 1656 \u00e0 1795 l&rsquo;Amiraut\u00e9 d&rsquo;Amsterdam, dont la fa\u00e7ade de bureaux de 1662 forme toujours l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e de l&rsquo;h\u00f4tel.<\/p>\n<p>De 1808 \u00e0 1988, le b\u00e2timent fut l&rsquo;h\u00f4tel de ville d&rsquo;Amsterdam. Des g\u00e9n\u00e9rations de couples amstellodamois s&rsquo;y sont mari\u00e9s, tout comme la princesse Beatrix et le prince Claus en 1966. Il est devenu un h\u00f4tel en 1992, puis le premier h\u00f4tel Legend de Sofitel en Europe en 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur, les anciennes salles du conseil et les couloirs lui donnent plus de caract\u00e8re que la plupart des h\u00f4tels de luxe.
